Hello All, I wish to introduce myself

Post by Angelina761 »

I will become a new parent to an Indian Ringneck in a few weeks time. Having been a breeder of cockatiels some years back, I never new anything about the Indian Ringneck until just a few months ago when, my children and I were buying some dog supplies at a local Pet supply and came across a green ringneck who could talk. My 10year old son fell in love with it, and since that day.....we have researched the Ringneck and talked to alot of people/breeders/pet shop owners.
We are looking forward to welcoming our new Ringneck into our family, and have joined this IndianRingneck site to talk to other Ringneck owners, possibly making some new friends on the site, and learning more at how we can be the best parents for our new Ringneck. I look forward to some great conversations with you all.

Well you came to the right place! What colour baby are you getting? Please post pics as soon as you get him/her!

They can be AMAZING talkers so its no wonder that caught your attention.

Good luck, congratulations and a big ol welcome from me and Datsun.

We love new babies! Most of us love our babies so much we end up with more than one

So we are birded out or we have to pick more birds and less family

*perK* Not a bad idea when one considers it

I and you... all of us are so lucky who are members of this board. With the exception of a punk named "gimmick" whom is no longer with us, we are BY FAR the coolest, nicest board online.

Ask anything, we love to help. PM me if you'd like in regards to any concerns.

Once you bring your baby home, this board will be your lifeline. What I mean by that is Irn's are very sensitive. Thereby, making them have good days and bad days. Bad days, we tend to take it personally... my baby doesnt love me, why? We are here to reassure you he will love you by tomorrow. And he will.

And best of all, we are here to share in your experience in raising the baby.

I assume through your research that you learned many times an Irn will take to ONLY one person. However, My 2 yr old loves the whole family but only wants me to care for her. Anyone else tries to change her food and they are going to draw back a nub. When outside the cage though, she will accept love from any passer by. If your bird takes to one and forsakes all others, will that work in your family? Something that REALLY needs to be considered because it is very common with Irns to be a 'one person bird' but all rules are made to be broken.

Now my Baby, she hates everyone equally. Me, she loves. She is 6 months old and thinks she is sooooo bad. She rules the roost. If he so chooses, she waddles over to her big sisters cage and runs her out of it! I try to not let her do that but sometimes it is cute to watch because her big sister is like God, here she comes again... Im outta here

Pleeeease, post pics ASAP! Did you see the new chicks on the board just hatched? Amazing to say the least. Here is the link to see them.

Thank you for your warm welcome

Post by Angelina761 »

To Dear Datsun & Family, and Mikaela,

Thank you very much for your warm welcomes. I appreciate your valuable information and offers for assistance. No doubt, there will be many times, especially in the first few months of bringing our baby home, that I will be asking for your assistance. Regardless to whether i need to ask a question or need assistance, I will be here. :D

There is not alot of information on the IRN.....and the information available can not always be reliable. Already I have heard so many conflicting stories.....it started to make me get a headache until I found this site. This site is absolutely fabulous, which is why I joined this forum, and makes me feel confident to refer to this site for assistance with my IRN. I want to be the best parent I possibly can. Our animals are our family and treated with the same amount of love, care, and respect.....which is why I believe and know that our new baby IRN will fit right in with us.

Our new baby IRN, 5 weeks old atm, is blue. We do not know the sex of him/her. My 10year old son has called him/her "Cookie" after the green IRN we first saw. We could have brought him/her home on the weekend, however, I work 3 days a week and unavailable to feed "Cookie" while he/she is on 3 feeds per day. We are in touch with the breeder/vice versa to keep up to date with the progress Cookie is making. Once Cookie is on 2 feeds per day, we'll be in the car and picking him/her up asap, so we can all begin to form a bond with him/her & vice versa.
We are going shopping for a cage, toys, food and the necessary items needed to ensure Cookie has a happy home, well a 2nd home anyway. We also have a handraised tame 6mth old rainbow lorikeet who spends all his time out of the cage when we are home.
(Cookie and Charlie - rainbow lorikeet, will be kept in separate rooms each with their own special time with us during the day - I have read that it is best not to mix the 2 different parrots together)

I will love to post pictures of Cookie on the forum when we bring him/her home.

I love looking at the pics here on the forum.

I look forward to being a part of this wonderful forum and talking with you all.

Keep you posted. :P

No more than one IRN for me. Tsume is my sister's. I think I can only handle one, lol. 0_0 Don't know how you handle two. :p

Hi Angelina and welcome to this forum. I do believe this is the best IRN site I've found. It has more reliable information and plenty who have had experiences with their IRNs we can all learn from- with birds of all ages. I've found a lot of myth and false information about ringnecks, and some quite jaded viewpoints. But not here, everyone is friendly and respectful. With so many IRN owners in one place dedicated to their pets, it's not hard to believe this is the best place to come for info! ^_^

Hi Angelina,

I have only been a member of this site a short time myself. I have a blue IRN named kai I purchased at the age of 11months from breeders that hand raised him and I have only had him 2 weeks. breeders are 70% sure he is male, but I am 90% just from owning him so far.

Socialise your bird with the whole family and all that come to visit. Kai is still very cautious and makes sure I am within sight, but he will step up to anyone.

I do have one trick under my blet. I know he loves !!! corn and pear, so I do not feed these to him in his cage or let anyone else feed them to him, only I do , heheheh, so he tends to love to come back to me and cuddles me big time. In such a short time he has already started immitating my three kisses and "I love you". He preens me and we are both very much in love.

My only regret is I never got him years ago. Yes they can be noisey first thing in the morning with their monkey like jungle chatter and in the early afternoon and just before sunset - and when you are not in sight, and when they are practicing to talk  LOL. But its such a beautiful natural sound, we love it. Honestly though, kai has settled his sounds down to chatter and rarely screaches if ever now that he is at home here.

I am only new to IRN, but as you can see from how quickly Kai is learning you learn just as quickly once you bring your baby home.

Make sure you read up well on cages & feeding.

Can't wait to see pics of Cookie. If your interested I have a quick little sight I made up just for my own personal pleasure of my Kai. http://www.geocities.com/xkyriax/index.html

Well enough of the essay  welcome to our gang and enjoy

Our New Baby is home

Post by Angelina761 »

We brought our baby IRN "cookie" home yesterday :D .....seemed like forever since we last saw him/her at the breeders home 2-3 weeks ago, and boy has he/she grown. It was so exciting, we even got a birth certificate...how cute. Cookie settled in very well, not taking very long to settle in to his/her new home. Loves being out of the cage, sitting on the shoulder and listening to you talk to him/her. He/She is the sweetest and cutest little thing, quiet and gentle. One very contented baby who loves human contact.
He is still on 1-2 weaning feeds/baby food per day, though won't be long before he/she is fully weaned, as he/she nibbles on seed all day. Loves corn, banana, and strawberries.

I will take a couple of photos and post them for you all to see very shortly.

I have 4 different species of bird in my house and they all mix.
I dont know anything about lori's tho so maybe they are different.

I have Indian Ringnecks, Sun Conures, Cockatiels and a blue red rump parrot. All those birds (13 of them) get along great. So it's up to the individual birds as to whether they get along or not. Since they have all been together so long it is hard at first to add new members to the flock.

After a while they newcomer (who does get chased around a fair bit at first) settles in and they all become friendly. As long as you can keep a close eye on them when they are together and interviene in case of trouble. Once they are used to each other they should get along great.

I love my sunnies, they have so much personality.

I took over from the breeder who hand raised them. I'm bad for this. I was supposed to hand raise them for him to sell. I ended up selling one and buying the rest heh. So they have been together for most of their lives. They are always together. All three are sitting huddled together on my shoulder. They sleep like that every night. Wherever they go they are always together.

I'm now friends with the guy I sold the other one too and I go visit occasionally they are getting along great.

This is why I'd be such a bad breeder, It would be almost impossible for me to sell anything. Any potential buyers would be interrogated and probably scared off. I'd want my babies to go to good homes

A lot of the best breeders I've met are like that. They want to make sure the animal is going to the best home. I fully expect any dog breeder to have a list of questions if I wanted to buy one of their dogs (if they don't then consider another breeder). So why not the same for birds? ^^

Thanks Neokireina for your post. I know that IRN can get along with their own parrot species and therealike. I just wasn't sure with the Lori, because the Lori is such a dominant parrot. Both Charlee, my lori, and cookie, my IRN are aware of each other and I have introduced them very quietly so they know both are living in the same house. It will be nice if they can both get along.....we have so much luv and time to give them both.

I have photos of our new baby Cookie.........would love for someone to give me some tips on how to post photos.....as I wish to show you all our baby.

Look forward to hearing from you

Cheers
