the female would almost never leave the nest box. It was the same for me... But when I have Budgerigar whith eggs she was away from the nest only to poop and stretch. They both (IRN female and Budgerigar female) spent the same amount of time in the nest.... And the Budgerigareggs were hatching anyw...

I have wondering if the eggs being to warm, and your story maby is right...
