Problems with eggs....

Post by Phia »

(i´m not good at english but I try anyway)

My birds got 3 eggs this spring.
She lay on the eggs about 35-40 days then I took them away...
I made a check inside the eggs and it was a baby bird in them but they was dead long time ago and it´s smell disgusting.

She lay on the eggs all the time, she was only out for some feeding and poping...
On the night the female and the male lay on the neast...

What has happend?

We have just give them the neast again and hope for better luck this time....

I hope someone understand my english....

Oh thank u Phia, my pair of green indian ringnecks layed four eggs, two were developing normally, but the other two did not hatch at all, but still had a chick inside and also smelled bad. I have no idea why this happens. Hope someone can answer this. I've been thinking, maybe it's the female is not rotating the eggs correctly, and that's why they are dying inside the egg. That's what i think, just my opinion.

Yes, i also thought about the eggs been too warm. i would actually check the eggs every other day to monitor their growth, with a light. and they did feel really warm when i picked them up maybe a little too warm. the female would almost never leave the nest box.

It was the same for me...
But when I have Budgerigar whith eggs she was away from the nest only to poop and stretch.

They both (IRN female and Budgerigar female) spent the same amount of time in the nest....

And the Budgerigareggs were hatching anyway and the babys grown up whitout problem...

Wow Phia this is really interesting, i also have Budgerigars and it is true, they also spend a lot of time in the nest. What i did with one of the IRN eggs was put it in the budgie's nestbox, she incubated the egg and her own, even though it was really big compared to hers. The egg developed normally and eventually a chick hatched. I did this because i knew this budgie was a great mother an would take great care of the egg, and she did.
