Going for a walk with your bird?

Hey guys, i was wondering if any of you had taken your birds out for a walk and how did it go? We haven't done this with any of our other birds as they're not clipped. Echo is and he is also very happy to see new people. He doesnt bite them or run away from them. So I was thinking, since it is spri...

Re: determining age of indian ringneck parrots

Jasmine's bout right but you could also use a genetic calculator. It works in some cases but it depends. For example (i might have mixed the parentage up), I think our Greenie's parents are lutino (male) and blue (female). Hence all green birds born will be male. So this wouldnt help you in your ca...

Re: To Small, To Big?

I live in Europe and I paid only 35euros for Echo's new home. It was 2nd hand but the previous owner was a very reliable person and his bird did not have PBFD or any other infectious diseases. Which is why i bought it. Anyway my point being, our cage, measures 34 inches (side to side) x 22 inches (...

Re: Screaming & Stubborn headed :)

Hi julie good to hear from you again. The thing is, a determining factor for their internal clocks is daylight. So the amount of daylight and what time the sun rises tells the birds if its going to be spring and winter etc etc. So I do not like covering their cages or making their room unnaturally ...

Re: Which uses more energy - walking or flying?

I'm going with flying! :P Because when they fly their entire group of chest muscles, wings, back, tail n even head is engaged toward propelling them in the right direction. So based on the amount of muscle in use in flying as compared to walking, I'd say it uses more energy. Plus the vets always to...

Dont worry you havent traumatized him :) IRNs can be very stubborn and he is showing you that he is unfriendly because he doesnt want to be man handled. If you want to be the nice guy to your bird then you shouldnt trim the wings yourself. Because then, he's really going to hate you. Take him to a ...

Yes pinkdevil is right about the trust part. There are just different methods of building trust and mine is to towel them, offer them treats and show them that I'm not a threat to them. I only suggested it because, of all the different methods I've tried, I think this is kinda what has worked with ...

Re: Learning the ropes....

Yeah the first few days are not easy and it really depends on the bird. But I'm surprised at how terrified he is of human contact. He most definitely is not hand raised. Echo came from an outdoor aviary and the breeders only interaction with his IRNs was feeding. He only brought food and water for ...

If you're looking for a bird that looks parakeet like but not so into the budgie features, I'd say get a pair of lovebirds. They're very entertaining, very colorful and catchy, not so inclined to long periods of quiet and at the same time a pair of them will be self sufficient, as far as attention ...

Steady. No need to get so hostile. I was just saying that it would be nicer for the bird if it could be given the opportunity to fly about its native habitat. Rather than sitting around in 4 walls the whole day.

Yes thats precisely what I do and do it about 3 or 4 times a day. With my IRN it only took a week till he took food from me while in his towel and he stop becoming fidgety. With my red crown parakeet, he used to tuck his head in deeper n fall asleep. However, there was one lovebird that we had, n i...
