I recently purchased two IRN parrots and I was wondering how do you determine how old they are. So far they seem to be females, but it can take up to three years to see the males ring under his neck.
Thank you
Darlene

I dont think there is anyway of testing how old they are without spending hundreds of $$.
If you post a photo of it I may be able to help a little.

you can use a photo bucket, upload the photos on there, copy the [IMG] code, and paste in the 'post a reply'snutiruti wrote:I cannot figure out how to send pictures of them on here otherwise I would.
And actually i wanted to correct you on one thing, you cannot see if they are males or females.. unless you get them DNA'd or wait till they are TWO years old, that is when the ring starts to appear.

Jasmine's bout right but you could also use a genetic calculator. It works in some cases but it depends. For example (i might have mixed the parentage up), I think our Greenie's parents are lutino (male) and blue (female). Hence all green birds born will be male. So this wouldnt help you in your case, as you inquire about the age but if you do have a male and he just doesnt have his ring yet, it might help, give you an age range.
Re: determining age of indian ringneck parrots
Thank you for your help. With assistance I think we found out one is older and one is younger but the younger one we will have to wait a bit to find out if it is a boy or a girl, which is my blue one and boy this one loves to talk. My green one does but is more quiet and seems for right now like to be talked to and that is all.
Thank you again

some get rings earlier than two and some are older than two before they get rings.
