New Baby...

Post by Mikaela »

I got my new baby! She is beautiful except she must have been kept in too small of a cage because her tail feathers are very teathered, or is this common in cinnamon pied 'tiels? The breeder believes it to be that. As I look at photos online I am confused to exactly what she is. They are broken and some are just ratty looking. She looks great, otherwise.

Now that she has a great home, how soon/long will it take to get new feathers? I am BRAND NEW to 'teils so I'll have alot of :?: 's

She is 3 months old. These birds are ALOT sweeter than Irn's but not as fun to watch. At least now the kids have a bird they can pet.

I welcome any and all advice! Pleeeeease help me anyway possible. I can only pray she turns out as good as BabynBoo.

Know of a 'tiel board half as good as this one?

Hey Mikaela,
Congrats on getting your tiel! My Milo-just a regular grey cockatiel-is the sweetest bird I've ever known! Loves to be held, scratched, kissed, and just be with me. He rarely bites, but can be moody at times. He's afraid of toys and food. So he doesn't like new things that much. He's still got toys from the first day that I got him. We've had him almost four years. I have to let him get used to things. While I'm holding him have the toy on my lap or on the table. He won't try anything new food wise. But he's my baby. He can say, "Hi", "Good boy", and "I love you." I'm so proud of him for that. Cuz I've been told that tiels usually don't talk. Don't know if that's true or not. But... He's my boy! Good luck with your new baby. What's the baby's name?

It's really funny but Chook my IRN has the personality of a tiel but my tiel, Max, is nasty like an IRN.

My cows also think they are dogs and my ram thinks he's a person so I guess it all fits

My she is actually a he. Now he will probably have a complex or something, been telling him what a pretty girl he was since yesterday. I was wondering why he was looking at me like I am stupid.

He is actually a Cinnamin pearl pied tiel. This makes it easy to sex him because of the barring on a pied tiel. Horizontal = girl Vertical = boy.
He is very pretty. He is like a platinum grey with white dots all over (being the pearling) and he is sweet but still a little scared.

He responds well to the name cheif. I am Cherokee and my husband said "Hey, cool he has a headdress too. I was like yup, he is my little cheif. And so it was written... until I change it tomorrow. Baby was 10 different things, bless her heart... India, Pretty girl, Ms. Tweety but then I found all I ever called her was Baby so it was written. I have my Boo so that name is taken, which sorta sucks but I talked to Boo about changing her name and she just doesnt want any part of it. So for now, Cheif it is.

Tiels have a habit of biting off one another's tail feathers when they're younger. So it's normal.

^_^

Feed him what you feed your IRNs so he'll be used to different foods. Too many adult tiels refuse anything but seed or pellets.

So true Melika and it cuts their life in half. In fact, some 'tiels can only live to be 5 to 10 when fed an all seed diet.

Yup. I got my tiel aged though and he'll try new things, as long as I'm eating. He loves Life cereal, lol. But before he was on all seed. Animals in this house live forever *points to 17 year old pointer mix, pictures of rabbit that lived to be 8, etc*

He only gets one piece, I know it's junk food. :p

Which reminds me.. better bring the birdies in, lol. Cold for them tonight!
