Hello

Post by charlie »

Hi. I'm new :)

I live in worcestershire, England. I live with my partner, my little boy and our chinese crested dog.

I used to own a cockatiel (a long time ago) and a Senegal. Unfortunatly our Senegal escaped last year as OH opened the front door before I had got her back in the cage. I was out looking for her for a few days, but never saw her again :( I have wanted to get another bird ever since, and I have recently been looking at IRN's. My nan used to have an Alexandrine (sorry, probably spelt wrong) when I was younger and I always thought it was a beautiful looking bird.

I have been researching IRN on the internet, but what people can say can be completley different, so I thought I would ask some people that own them what they are like as pets. I emailed someone that has a hand reared baby for sale, and he pointed me to here for advice.

So that's me! :)

i have five all different peronalities
riku -green male the first one we got and an absolute darling
he knows larissa (mydaughter who we bought him for) loves him & therefore everything in her room and on her plate is fair game to him
kieron - blue male kieron doesnt like to be touched (he was hurt buy someone before i got him but loves to chat with me & absolutly loves judge judy!! (a tv show)
kirara - lutino hen kind shy & serious loves toi be told shes beautiful & clever but dont try to touch her she doesnt like that at all
pickle - green juvenile not sure of gender is a little panic bird doesnt like that i have to put my hand in his cage at all
though he is getting better finaly ive had him scince march last year & hes only just calming down now
& last but by no means least
skeet - silver again not sure of gender but this week im calling skeet a girl
skeet is the offspring of kieron and another irn i used to have called orchid i hand reared her so she is the most comfortable of the 5 around me she knows shes the baby & everyone loves her she will land on total strangers & proceed to tell them about her day like they were desperate to know (once we had a bhuddist monk visiting & she just thought he was wonderful she spent hours sitting on his shoulder)
life is never boring here & the colors are amazing
yes weve had birds go through the bluffing stage (read those posts) and wh have had some dramas but i wouldnt be without the feathered part of my family for anything now

Hi Charlie, welcome. :)

I am a little biased to ringies as I now have a few of them, so they can't be that bad. lol
It depends on what type of personality in a bird you are after. Ringies seem to have a reputation for not being a smoochy bird, but I have a couple that are quite cuddly. They don't seem to be as playful as a lorikeet for example.
Mine are happy to sit on my shoulder while I go about the house duties, or sit in my lap for pats. Mine are also quite happy perched somewhere while I go about my business.
If you have a search on youtube, you should be able to find a lot of videos of these birds.

Good luck in deciding on your next bird. :)

Thank you for the welcomes. From what I've read so far IRN's are sounding like the perfect bird for me and my family. I have a few questions to ask, so I'm off to post them in the questions part.

I look forward to getting to know you all and all your gorgeous birds! :)
