hi guys
my name is steve,i am 31 and live in uk
my wife and i have had our beautiful green irn for three months now, he is a happy bird, gets let out everyday and even goes back into his cage when he's exhausted himself!
We would love to get him to trust us a bit more,as he backs away when anyone approaches him,but he is chirpy and serves as a good alarm clock if nothing else!!
any ideas on how i can build a better relationship with him?

Hello SteveB
Welcome to this forum! Sounds like you are doing well with your Ringneck! Only advice I could give you is to just let him set the pace for the relationship between you and him. Sounds like you are doing everything right! Ringnecks indeed do make nice alarms, especially in the early morning! LoL!!
Could be a bad thing on Saturdays though, right? LoL!!!
Best wishes and good luck!

Hey Steve B,
The one true thing I can tell you that works for my IRN Anikin is
FOOD!!! Sometimes Anikin will be in his cage, and all I have to do to get him to come out is to bring him a snack. He jumps right out to me! This is also helpful when other people want to hold him but he doesn't want to be bothered; they just pick up some type of food and he'll climb right up to their shoulder to snack!
I think one of the best things you can do for you and your bird is positive reinforcement. Whenever he does something you like offer him a treat or kind words. He'll soon learn what you like and try to do it to get your attention or a positive reaaction from you. My little bird is so very sweet...and I think it has alot to do with the patience and time I put into him. The more time you put into your bird the sweeter he will be! Remember, time = bonding! Good luck with your little birdie.
