Hi everyone
I have a question about my little guy. He is now 15 weeks old, and has been DNA's male. However when I scratch around his head and under is chin, he tilts his head back, and pins his eyes ad it seems like the female behaviour. Have any of you seen this before?
Regards
Shane

Re: Behaviour a bit strange
Yes that is odd! But some ringnecks do exhibit similar behaviors of the oppostie sex. It can be difficult to sex a ringneck at a young age many times becaue their actions are so varied. Many of the babies that I have handfed have mislead me simply by their actions! But, if you got the DNA results back then a male is a male.

Re: Behaviour a bit strange
its very common for babies &juveniles to exhibit both male & female behaviour he will settle in to just the males as he gets older my skeet at 16 months old is doing both the female crouch & the male dance im still waitning to find out which gender skeet is so i go from calling skeet a good boy to a good girl at the flip of a coin

ok thanks guys. was starting to think it would be my luck that I would be the 0.01% that they got wrong.
I will post some pics of him again soon too. he has grown alot. Also, his beak has black on it, where I seem to see a lot at his age that have a nice clean beak, where his looks a bit dirty? Is this anything to worry about? It has always been that colour since I got him from the breeder.

his beak is probably fine. if you are really worried, get a birdvet to check it.
ive only ever seen IRNs with black on their beak, regardless of age. I have even seen IRNS with entirely black beaks - no red at all! Not sure what that was about but they seemed normal and healthy.
