Egg missing

Post by julie »

I just checked the box to see if there was more eggs , there was 3 in there yesterday and today there is only two. I know for a fact there was 3 because i took pics as its hard to see into the box. I looked/felt right through the box and all around the aviary, there is completely no sign whatsoever off the egg. There is evidence of mice on the rail behind the box but Im pretty sure a mouse wouldnt be able to get an egg out of that box.
any ideas what could have happened?

A mouse can easily remove eggs, and surprisingly large ones for their size too... amazing predators they can be.

If there is not even a sign of egg shell in the smallest amount, I would say mice got it.

If they know there is a source of food there, they will be back, so you may want to get some bait stations like 'tomcat' or something going on.

That night I put vaseline along the rails and behind the nest box, basically anywhere the mice could possibly go to get into the box. I still have the two eggs :D :D
