Hi Titanboy;
Hard question to answer. Possibilities:

1 : The chicks were dead in the nestbox and thrown out. They are very rich in proteins and parents recycle the energy. This is not very usual but it can happen. Nothing special to do but praying to have an alive chick.

2 : The female kills the chicks after hatching: have a look on the egg to hatch and take out the chick as quick as possible after hatching for hand-feeding, in you do not have another reproducing pair.

3 : The male kills the chicks: take out the male. The female should be able to feed the chick alone.

Hope you will get the last one.

Cheers
