the bird moves around the cage, hangs upside down eats and is now sleeping but earlier when i was placing the food dish inside he/she started flapping away what may i do to get the bird to relax while my hand is in there?

Congrats on the new baby!!
My Sky did the exact same thing when I first got him home. I just sat by him for a few hours every day. He got relaxed enough to let me reach in and change is water without spazzing out by the end of his 2nd day home. Talk to him sweetly. Maybe offer him a treat or something. Pick a spot near the front of the cage and hold your hand there. Don't chase him around with it in other words.
I've found that the quickest way to a Ringie's heart is through his stomach. ;D Good luck!
I wanna see some pics!!

Mine was the same, but im sure mine was mistreated before i got him, when he arrived he had recovered from a broken wing, couldn't fly ect, with him its just slow and easy with him, now he just sits and watches when u stick hands in the cage.
shouldn't be long before the flapping stops
