Hi Leo

This is not normal for birds to chew off feathers.

It could be hormones or a more serious problem. A bacteria infection can cause this behavior or some times of food allergy.

hehe, I really have no idea what kind of breeder thinks that a bird wont moult broken / nipped feathers.... whenthey moult, they moult regardless of the health of the feather or the problem. What plucking the feather will do at this point since its not just one feather or two... will seriously damage any trust you have with this fella, not to mention cause some stress on the birds health in trying to instantly re-grow the plucked feathers...

You have been struggling with your birds problems since you got her back no? Things have been going from bad to worse from what are saying, there is a chance your bird picked something up on the way, however I would really suggest that your bird is suffering serious levels of stress more than anything.

Can you show us some pics of how Tango is going?

I just cant see that moulting and itchieness has anything to do with this in the slightest, and the bacterial o0r hormone problem would show very fast with a trip to a vet for a blood check so I suggest, if you really have not done that yet... do it now.

This bird has been though some serious trauma no? I would go back to the situation of trust to solve the problem.... your bird doesnt feel trusting in his environment? Or around you? Does he pluck / nip feathers when you are near? Or even around you?

Edit: have you gone looking around for a product like "pluck-no-more"? its basicly a spray that makes chewing the feathers unpleasant to the bird.
