Hello, my name is Dalia, and we have two IRN that joined the familly recently COCA the female that is supposed to be 1 year old and that accept food from our hands but is scared and bites when we try to take her out of the cage. The male COCO is 3 years old (he joined us last week) they are in different cages but the male turns his back to us when we try to present something to him and both of them bites when we try to get them out. What can we do to encourage them to trust us and become more friendly shall we keep them in different rooms (we tried to put them together but the female was agressive)... Seeking for advice as they are two different characters......(We live in Egypt and of course it is difficult to know if their behaviour will change in winter or spring... Only time will show but they are so nice and we really would like them to adopt us.
You said your birds have joined you recently. I think you should give it some time so they can adjust to their new home. Aside from that make sure you spend time with them. The more time you spend with them the better results you'll have! If they are not wanting to come out of the cages just spend time in the room they are in so they can get use to you being around. Most of all be kind! If they feel threatened at all by you they will not want to be friendly towards you so if they get nippy just give them space. You should continue to talk to them and to offer them treats, fruit, or toys, if they accept, to let them know you are not a threat. I think that keeping them in a different room would produce better results especially since they are both new to your home. Almost any animal will bond with their own kind before they consider us! By separating them I think you'd be giving them a better chance to get to know you and your family otherwise they might ignore you and it may lessen your chances of making a good bond with your birds. Anyway, hope this helps!
