How does it 'happen'?

Post by Lauren »

Probably the most ridiculas question.. excuse my ignorance, but.. as I was observing Jibs and Lola doing 'it', (for the hundredth time this week ) .. I wondered.. does she have a special 'hole' ontop of the tail? I thought they rub cloacas together, but how? when it doesnt look as though his 'bits' can reach around there?
Oh one more silly question, Lola has been making these weird little noises in the box, sounds like a cat meowing, Ill call it a meow for now, because its hard to explain. Well, today as they were both helping themselves to my breakfast cereal, she was sitting on my hand, then turned around and did the 'meow' at me? Her head was all puffed and she looked like she was 'winking', or 'fluttering' her eyes, then she proceeded to do her little female mating thing. What is going on here? This 'meow' only started when she made the nestbox her home. I was thinking it was her 'booty call to Jibby' haha. Anyone seen this female behaviour before?
Jibby looks so bored when shes spending hours in her box too, he taps on the box with his beak, and trys to coax her out. Its so funny.
This is so exciting, I hope they are successful.

I was actually observing mine today and he slides under her, it looks really awkward but he does actually get it there in the end (if you know what I mean :)

Males of some species of birds have what I will delicately refer to as "male bird junk", but parrots are not among those species. Male parrots are able to slightly evert their cloaca in order to facilitate fertilization but, yes, the cloacae essentially need to be rubbed together for fertilization to take place.

I'm sure Jibby will figure it out if he hasn't already.
