IRN with others

Post by MonknSharona »

How well do your IRNs get along with other birds? Just curious.

I have an albino IRN, a cockatiel, and an eclectus. The two that interacted were the tiel and the IRN. Well, it didn't go as well as I had though. Posey (IRN) is definately more bossy than I thought! I thought Paisley (the tiel) would be the more dominant one. I've got them all out right now with the two smaller bird on the bed together. Posey takes every chance she gets to chase little Paisley away. I feel so badly for Paisley because she just wants to make friends with Posey as she's always lived in a multi bird household. Paisley is a bit older now, about 9 years old and Posey is just two. I'm not trying to push them together but with three birds, it's easier to have them all out at the same time; but still keep them apart from each other. I am completely leaving Ruby (the eclectus) out of the whole thing. She is out at the same time but totally separate as she's got so much size on the both of them....although....she'd actually be the one to submit I'd bet.

So, I just thought I'd ask how well your IRNs get along with other birds.

I know that my breeder houses Quakers with her IRN's but no other kind of bird. Not really sure why though, sorry. I will ask her via e-mail today and if I get a reply, I'll post back to you.

i have an IRN and an african grey. they are very close now at first my IRN zazu was curious and he would bite the grey to see what she would do. he didnt really bother the grey much. now my african grey "Blanche" zazu around likea badd smell if zazu is siting on his cage she will be there and if zazu moves to the sofa she will move with him. but they do get on quite well. to start with i would keep them in ther cages but close to each other for a couple of hours a day.

I have Jade (IRN) and Joe (Senegal). They have seperate cages but during the day I open their cages and let them play. Joe is the bossy leader and Jade just adores him. Joe is 16 months and Jade is 2 1/2 months. I hope as Jade gets older she will be a little more independant. She will beg for Joe to feed her and come over to her cage. It is really cute. She also lets him know when he gets too rough and will nip him. Not really sure if she is a girl or not. Joe was DNA sexed when I got him so I know for sure he is a male.
