I have finally been making progress with my male Louis. He was 5 when we rescued him from a hoarder, and when we got him was an absolute mess. He hated people, was scared to death of me, and especially my husband. It has been a little less than a year, and now finally after countless bites, and setbacks I think he is now coming around. The other night, we were sitting , eating dinner, and louis came down from his cage walked over (lookinjg for a bite of my sweet potatoes) and said "hello Katie" which of course is my name. I gave him a bit and he stayed to hang out, hoping for more treats. I may have created a monster though, because now, everytime I am eating something, here comes Louis sweet talking me for a bite. He has also started making this strange noise that we are assuming is a mimick of my 4 month old sons cries, sounds like a hungry baby. I think he is trying this angle to get treats too, since when the baby cries he gets fed. Louis is handicapped, his wings were severly damaged by some idiot who went WAY OVERBOARD trimming his wings. they had actually cut off part of his wing bones, so he will never fly again. my female rings have limited flight, to prevent accidents, and he seems sad because all he can do is climb around on my drapes and the ladder system we built for him. I even gave him his own toy castle. he spends a good part of his day opening and closing the drawbridge going in and out of the doors, and peeking out of the little balcony to proclaim himself king. funny, he never poops on it.
He's a smart little monster, I'll give him that. He gets results lol. It is definitly spooky sometimes how close he sounds to the baby now. he has been perfecting it for a few days now. I find myself getting up to check on him, and finding Louis instead craning his neck out as if to say "wheres my damn treat" we are very pleased with all of his progress. He still hates my husband, but since I am home all day he has become pretty comfortable with me. I also think he isnt into my husband because my female Hoff always displays to my husband, and not him. he keeps trying to get fresh with her, but she only has eyes for bill lol.
Haha awww thats so sweet. I caught billy talking to my son earlier i think he was trying to get him to give up his toys all i could hear was oooooooooo oooooooo billy hello hello billlllllly ooooooooo
but as soon as i was in view he stopped talking and trying to get the toys lol i can see ill have to keep an eye on these two lol

Well done chobah on succeeding in gaining Louis' trust.
It must be very pleasing to see what patience, hardwork and love can do. I hope Louis continues to put his trust in you and hopefully one day your husband.
I was wondering if the overboard wingclipping from previous was actually a cruel procedure called "Pinioning"
. Someone (think it was Donna but can't remember) mentioned here recently about it.
I like the way Louis doesn't poop on his castle
Can you post a videio or pics of him playing with his drawbridge and peeking out of the balcony? Sounds too cute!

I will get a video of Louis playing in his magical kingdom up, It's wicked funny (sorry my boston is showing) He has had it on top of his cage for almost the entire time he has lived with us, and he gets irate every time i take it down for a wipe down. Now I just need to catch him in the act while I have my camera going, that is always the challenge. I think he knows when I am trying to get a good pic of him, he always runs off when he sees the camera lol. I really think he hates my husband because he is jealose of him, and thinks he is competition. Our other rings loves him, they are female birds, don't know if that makes a difference. I am very excited also, because we are adding a new baby to the flock. We are buying a baby blue from a breeder who I found locally after months of searching. He/She (don't know the sex yet) Will be our first baby fresh from a breeder, our other birds were all rescues that we have had to tame and gain trust with. I know the new baby will take work too, but I have been visiting him/her every week to get him used to my scent, and we seem to be bonding already.
