talking?

Post by lutino »

My IRN seems like he/she wants to talk cos of the muttering/mumbling chimp sounds he/she makes. These first started at about 5 months, now lutino is 8 months but they havnt progressed to any words. He/she is a quiet bird that is home alot by itself.
Could this be the reason he/she doesnt say alot? lonely?
Im at university, but when i take lutino home for the holidays he/she is always chatty, probably because there are more noises around.
Im not sure what to do. All the other signs are of a happy bird though.
I thought about getting him/her a friend but im not sure if lutino will like it as he/she is quite an independent bird who hates it when my brother brings his birds to my place for the weekend. He/she seems kinda interested in them but then just growls lol :?

Yes it could be that lutino is home alone, not much vocal stimulation, but then they don't really start to talk properly until after 12 months usually.

Another fid might just have your lutino attached to it rather than you, or as you say they may not get along and then you have two lonely birds on your hands. You would also need the time to intergrate them and monitor their behaviour together and you sound like you just don't have that time.

So long as lutino gets around 2 hours of your attention a day s/he should be just fine. In that time talk alot, all the time, the things you want him/her to learn. Have lutino out with you during the time you do have together.

IRNs will generally start talking/muttering anywhere from 5 to 12 months. Some are just have quiet personalities. Some love to chatter. Give it a bit more time. As Angie said, as long Lutino gets about 2 hours attention from you a day out of the cage he/she should be fine. Have you tried putting the tv on or music during the day? Or even your voice talking?

Introducing a friend to Lutino can be a good thing for Lutino but then do you want the possibility of them bonding together and not you or not getting along at all? Its all up to you of course. Just some questions to ask yourself. You need some time to monitor them together as Angie said.

I think i just need to spend some more time with him/her, and take into the lounge to see the tv, which lutino likes. I do often walk round the house with Lutino on my shoulder, but i know my flatemates would go nuts at me for leaving the tv or radio on!!!
Thanks for your ideas.
