Yall wanna play a game? Most of us are from across the pond and I miss being across the pond so I thought of a game... if yall wanna play it.
Its called Members and Mates!
Ok, what we can do is... leave a post containing words translated from 'American to Aussie' (both are English). I thought this would be a fun idea. No telling what we will come up with! lol
For my post its:
Americans say: I fell 'head over heels'
Aussies say: I fell arse over t*ts.
When I heard this chick say that I bout DIED!!! Loved it!
(I hope IRN.com is still liberal enough for this. If not, sorry to offend. Most of our members are well over 18 so I dont see common farm terms as being an issue. Though an 'issue' can be made out of anything.)
Hard game this one as aussies have so many colloquialism (slang) and I really didn't hear or don't know much of what the Americans have (neither will alot of other people on the site), I mainly just noticed the accents are all so different from area to area in the US, but didnt come across anything strange like us Aussies have.
let me see;
Americans: You have to be joking (I think this is all I heard of this)
Aussies: Ya gotta be gaggin - or -
Pull the other one it's got bells on
----
Maybe it would be easier if we posted our own countries slang with its meaning next to it ??
eg.
Aussie - Hit the frog and toad = hit the road (start driving)
Aussie - little tackers = (children)
etc.

American: I made a mistake I need to erase (an eraser)
Aussie: I need a rubber, made a typo.
That one freaked me out to. I was like daggone! That dude just out right asked for a rubber, then I realized what was going down when he used a girls pencil eraser.
Everyone that heard my accent in Florida became mezmorised... lol .. they totally love it , but most guess that I am either from Boston or the UK until I would say to them, "hey fair go mate, c'mon take another dig at it"

Can't understand it though , its not a very feminine accent, the more southern you get in the world the less feminine the accents are and besides Tasmania I am pretty much the most southern of the lot. Even Lauren by a few miles. lol

I don't know that it's about being feminine. A lot of Americans don't sound very feminine, regardless of an accent. Personally I just think it's cool. Aussie, Brit, you name it... we want what we don't have. LOL
Some friends we met wanted to continue the party and my man was ready to call it a night. They were in the suite right next door. The guy told my husband:
Aussie; No worries mate! She'll be apples!
American: Its cool man, shes safe here.
That one made me old man
Thats one of the best ones I remember... Jeff looked at that dude like he was speaking alien.
