Mirrors

Post by lutino »

Is it ok for my IRN to sit by my mirror? It seems to be his/her favourite place! I heard that it causes them to bond with the mirror and not you,and that they dont learn to talk. How true is this?

Any comments are welcomed
Thanks

I don't think there is any real truth in it, unless you never spent any time with your IRN. But if you take him away from it and spend time with him often, give him love and treats and interaction, I think I know where he would prefer to be. I know my IRN's like to play with their own reflection, but I have a feeling they understand it is just a cold reflection.

Our cockatiel loves to snuggle up at rest time with her mirror stand, but she is the tamest bird I have ever seen , because my daughter spends so much time with her. When my daughter is around the mirror doesn't seem to exist for kiely.

 Just my experiences and humble opinion.

check out your post here it has answers to a similar question http://www.indianringneck.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=4199

In my own exprience I don't think it true that a mirror causes a bird to bond with it insted of you, my IRN likes to sleep on the mirror and play with it but it still has bonded with me. As for a mirror causing a bird not to learn to talk I would also think this is untrue as my IRN mimics me. But it is really up to the bird, some learn to talk, some don't.. you can't expect a bird to talk.
