what do these sounds mean?

Post by texbird »

We just got our first IRN.

It makes a number of sounds and I was wondering if anyone had any translations?

1. When petted she makes a clucking/chirping sound. I assume this is a contentment sound?

2. When in her cage she makes a single chirrurp! sound - I assume this is a "come here" or "where is everyone" sound?

3. She occasionally makes a strong LOUD whistle that sounds like the HAWK sound you hear in movies (like in the film LadyHawke). This one has me stumped. She doesnt seem angry. Is it just a general happiness call?

Congrats on your new fid.

1. When she makes these sounds does she arch her back and dialate her eyes? How old is she. It might be that she is ready to breed and is seeing you as her mate.

2. If this sound is the one I think it is, I hear them do it all the time, I have no clue what it means. My hens tend to do it when all my males start screaming and chirping and making some other strange sounds at the same time. One starts and they all follow.

3. You are right this sound could be because she doesnt want you to leave. Mine tend to make it when something bothers them for example, my nephew (or any stranger to them) walking into the bird room or my dog sticking his head in to see what I am doing. They also make it every morning and evening as well as some other "singing" and chirping sounds.

I hope this helps,
