Very standoffish... what's going on?

Hi everyone. Since Cricket got a new roomy, she's been really standoffish to me. She's carrying on like a pork chop whenever I go and visit her in her big aviary, bluffing & puffing herself out like no-ones business. I used to be able to tell her to step up and she'd come out with no probs, but now she's pinning and growling at me when I try to get her out.

I've been persavering and taking her out to spend quality time with me even though she'd like to take a chunk out of me when I do it. When she's with me for a couple of hours then she seems (almost) back to her loveable old self. Her roomy's been with her for about 6 weeks or so, and she's about 2 years old......

What do you think?

I think this is a problem I see every day or here about. People think there little birdie needs a friend. Not so in some cases. Your bird was perfectly happy being your bird so now you bring another flock member in and it even speaks his language sooo the original birds says thank you now I have someone that looks like me acts like me and talks like me and the heck with the human flock member. The best thing to do is seperate them and give them their own space and their own time with you. If you don't you'll end up with two birds bonded to each other and want nothing to do with you. Good point Donna. The other IRN was actually a mild rescue case. He's pretty wild and won't come anywhere near me unless it's to fly at me and veer away I don't think I want to seperate them, as they need the room of the large flight aviary their in. My hubby actually suggested I take Cricket into work for an entire day, to spend time with her away from Crash. Good suggestion though Donna, but I think I'll have to work this angle another way

That would probably be a good idea taking her to work with you. Sometimes they have to be reassured that they are the number one bird and demand all the attention. Is there anyway that you can seperate the flight aviary by putting a divider in it? I really think your going to have double the trouble the longer they are sharing a cage. Ya just never know with these little guys what will be the best thing to do until you find out you did the wrong thing then it's twice as hard to fix. If that makes any since?? LOL

Anyway, wanted to thank Donna for both her posts, good job. The last one pertained to me. I adopted Buddy thinking Baby needed a friend.

Let me make it clear: HE DIDNT, nor was the addition appreciated. Baby hasnt really been the same sense. I wanted them to play together and just be happy with one of his own. They hate each other.

Tolerate at most. Each on the same stand at best. That saddened me very much. Then I read your post explaining what could have happened and Im estatic these boys dont hang out together... I might have lost my best friend.

No more bonding being pushed here! In fact, now, the opposite. I dont want to lose my Baby to a tag along buddy, both up to no good!

Poor Mik, 5am? Go back to bed darl. I was in the middle of posting a reply to Donna yesterday when the power went out.

So anyway, I'll take her to work when the boss is out, and I put the suggestion to Matt to divide the aviary. Might be a good idea, but I don't know how we'll go putting a partitian in there with a male angry IRN lunging away at you every 2 seconds

So thanks for all your advice Donna & Mick, I'll keep you updated.
