I really love this website. It has been so helpful. My husband and I are picking up our first ringneck from a breeder the end of may. We've names him(or her) Teer. She has been hand fed. I was just wondering about when we first bring her home. We didn't want her shipped so we are driving four hours to get her. Will the car trip be tramatic for her? Is there any way to make her feel safer? Also, when we get her home should we let her get used to her cage first or should we start to handle her right away. Thanks so much.

Hi Congratulations on getting your new baby. I just brought 2 new babies home last weekend. They were fine on the trip home, but got scared once I put them in their cage. it takes a while for them to get used to a totally new person taking care of them all the sudden and the new surroundings. Your baby may be quiet for a couple weeks and then all the sudden start getting more and more vocal.
I put my guys in the cage when I got home and let them relax until the next morning. It's probably best to handle them soon after getting them home. My two bite as even though they were hand fed, they were raised in a pet shop environment and not handled except for feeding time. I have to work with them, but they seem to be getting more and more used to me and biting less.
I bought 2 babies 4 years ago and they didn't bite at all as they were hand raised and handled alot being brought up in a home environment. Good luck with them

Hi! I bought mine from a breeder and he advised to put the ringneck in a box that is covered to reduce the stress (of course with enough ventilation).
