Fiona got her wings clipped and I am an idiot!

Post by fiona »

I feel like an idiot! I took fiona to get her wings clipped (2nd time ever) to the same place. Last time they had me get her out of the carrier and then they grabbed her. This time, they got ready and I got her out.....and she took off flying! She landed near by and I had her step-up (instead of just grabbing her-idiot move no.2) and she took off again. There were 4 or five other people there with their birds and some other birds out on top of their cages. The guy says, "This is why you don't take them out of the carrier." Finally this girl caught her and got bit, of coarse. They get it all done and they asked if I wanted her or to go in the carrier. I said I wanted to keep her out (I was going to get a toy) and she tried to take off again (Because for some reason I guess I thought she would miraculously know she can't fly) anyway, she landed on this woman standing by me with her cocatoo and I grabbed her and put her in the carrier. After that, I paid and left as soon as possible. I don't want to ever go back there(but it's the cheapest place to have an "expert" clip wings. I apoligized a million times and told them that she doesn't normally take-off like that, especially in places she doesn't know. I should have known better and used a little more common sense. Maybe I'm overreacting, but I feel like the biggest idiot on the planet!

We all do dumb things, as long as we learn I think we will be ok.

I once took Mack (tiel) to get treats and new toys he never flys and sticks to my shoulder when ever we go outside. I didn’t think to check his wings when I left the house as I never saw him fly. We had been out for a couple hours getting errands done and finally came to the pet store. This macaw lets out a typical macaw burst scarring Mack to death he took off and flew around in circle above everyone’s head for a good 5 minutes, when he landed he got clipped. Well im lucky he didn’t go out the door or that he didn’t decide to fly when I had him outside. I check all my fids wings now before going outside even if just for a minute or two.

So don’t beat yourself up we have all done the dumb thing bit.
