Our little dude, is bluffing.

yup at age 5 weeks, i have talked to the local expert who has put me in touch with a NZ support group who have a behviour specialist with them too.
we are taking the bites and not flinching, but he deffintly knows it's not nice, he stops for a few mins if i say no.

just thought i would give you all an update.

Does he react to both of you equally or do one or the other of you get the bites?. My Hubby rarely handles Nila and Nila never bites him. Steps right up and down and no bluffing but for me he does the bluffing. Wonder if they only do it to separate or grow up like a tennager with his parents as he's maturing, trying to establish his independence. :?

I did lots of 'step ups' when Hane would bluff and bite me. He didn't like that and would usually only go for me once or twice. They're smart and pick up on consequences rather swiftly. But it may not work for every bird. It sure worked on Hane though!

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay
