Hi,
Covering up a birds cage is up to you. It just depends on the situation. It is supposed to be that covering the bird's cage means that it will be quite / asleep when the cover is on. I wish I could cover up my breeder birds cages. They wake me up right around 6:30 a.m each morning! It also depends on the enviroment the bird is in. If they are near a window, they are going to be able to tell it is time for them to be up and will let you know about it. I had a pet conure that was real spoiled that I never covered him and he never was locked in his cage at night. He would come out and visit with his friedn in the morning. Birds kinda know what time it is. The covering is really to signify night time to the bird. It is training in my opinion. If you have the bird in a busy area I would suggest you covering it.
Ringnecks nap periodically through the day. Sometimes their nap is very short. Like they are resting their eyes. I am not sure how long a nap can be for them.
What would you be injecting in your bird?! Most medicines are given orally. If you would tell us about your birds' illness and what you are giving it, so we can learn more about it. Me personally, I would rather a vet do injections.
Hope this helps...............

I agree with Jodie, it's all up to you. I cover Kiki's Cage each night, and carry her cage to my bed as she wants to sleep with me now! Lol!
