Sick of taking your bird for nail trims?

Post by Mikaela »

Well, I have the answer but first let me put out the warning.

DO NOT, should you use this wonderful, stress-free method, allow your bird to stay perched too long. They have soft baby feet and it will make them sore.

I wrapped sandpaper around Baby's shower perch and stuck it to the sliding glass door. He was on for about 5 minutes and I asked him to step up. Already, his nails where no longer peircing my skin. Then throughout the day I let him hang out on the sand paper for a few more minutes.

All total on the sand paper... Maybe 30 minutes TOPS. His nails are soooo smooth. Moreso than with a clip. He is happy he didnt have to go get one and Im happy I didnt have to take him.

I need to make and market these, not spread the word before I obtain my trademark.

Try it, you'll love me forever. No more trauma with nail clips! Yay!

Just please dont leave the bird there long... soft baby feet will get sore.

Also be careful with this and any gritty perch. Especially the ones they sell in the pet stores that are usually pink, green, blue you name it. if the bird is allowed to perch for long periods of time they can wear down there nails to the vain and begin to bleed and possibly also get an infection.

Did a little more research on this topic. Found out that what Mik suggested is perfectly ok, but some people find the ones made of concrete and what not are just plain no good at all for birds. Micro abrasions, small lacerations, combined with poop and other dirt that can accumulate in the the small sections of the perch can be very bad for birds. If you are going to use anything, use what Mik said. I would like to say I just tried this today and Georges little claws are nice and soft, he has stopped getting hung up in the carpet too, sometimes even after the pet store trimmed him he would still get hung up. This sand paper perch rocks. Thanks Mik

Thats why I bought fine grade sand paper and wrapped the perch. I had more control over the texture.

Iowings, its worked REALLY well. But again ya'll... very limited amounts of time is all they can handle AND all it really takes. Dont make your babys feet sore.
