New Aussie

Post by locusdale »

Hi All,

Fabulous site !!!! Great info and help provided by all, you all deserve credit for what you do.
I am an Aussie who has a love and interest in all creatures big and small. A breeder of Whippets and OEG bantams ( poultry ), I have an overwelming interest in genetics and read and surf the net for information related to genetics. My personal belief is that if you want to be a good breeder of top quality stock it is important to have a good knowledge of how these work with your related breed of interest.
I fell in love with a pair of Blue Ring necks at a show I was exhibiting at and have since bought a pair of Blues and Greys. I have come here to learn as much as I can about the colour genetic factors of these amazing birds. I hope I dont anoye anyone with the questions I may ask in relation to this, things like dominant colours, dilutes and what I presume are double dilutes of some colours ???
Hope to get to know you all better
cheers Max

Welcome aboard, I'd love to see the pics of the blues and greys you bought. Were they already adult proven pairs or did you get babies?

Hope it's fun and rewarding for you.

Thanks everyone,

Sue and Nila,
will endevour to get some photos of the blues and greys as soon as our Royal show is over. I have poultry and my Whippets entered and it has been a busy few weeks for me. The blues were a young pair about 12months old and the greys are a proven breeding pair, about 5 years old. They have had babies before and have had Blues and Greys in thier clutches ? Is this what they should be having ??? Does it give you any indication what thier parents might be ??

Mikaela,
Hope u can get your Greys soon they are simply devine. Let us all know when you do.

Thanks for the great site, I have enjoyed pouring through the old messages in the breeding section on the genetics. Its is really great to see everyone helping each other. I dont live far from Jeremy so I hope one day I can meet him and learn so much more from him, he sounds a fasinating man.

cheers Max

Well, Im like a recovering bird addict so I am not 'using' at the moment.

I never know when I am going to have a relapse and come home with one though. Bird rehab... what a joke, didnt work for me.
