Potty Trained!!!

Post by PETE's Mommy & Daddy »

i've been a member on this site for a month now and this is my first time posting! anyways, i think that our PETE is potty trained. we've had him for 3 months now and we've noticed that he goes to the same spot...like a trained dog (even when he's outside his cage!) everytime he takes a crap. are all IRN behave like this? IS THIS NORMAL??? we've also noticed that he tugs on me or my husband whenever he needs to go "poo-poo"...all we need to do is take him to his spot then after he does his thing, continues playing with us. we got him when he was 8 mos. old...anybody has the same IRN behavior like my PETE???

No way but I could send you Nila for a week and see if you could train him or maybe Pete could talk to him. My husband's about crazy with the "bird poop all over the floor". I don't think I could let Nila stay longer than a week I'd miss him too much.
The man at the bird shop told me about trying to potty train, but I haven't tried that yet.
What a wonderful smart little birdie you have.

Yep as a rule IRNs dont like to poop on people, they are far too dignified! So potty training is relatively easy!

For those who want to try:

Choose a command like "Congrats" (Audi's command) or "Bombs Away" (Dats command) but something you wont say in everyday conversations LOL

Then anticipate your birds need to poo, you know when they kinda step back and do the wiggle? When the go you hold them over newspaper or the bin and say your command word... easy

The trick is asking them to go just before they need to so put them on newspaper every 20 mins and ask them to go, soon enough they will associate the paper or bin and the word with the action and you have a potty trained baby!

BUT always be on the ball, you don't want that baby busting to go and waiting on you to let them!

Hmm *scratches head* Baby poos on me and sometimes my boyfriend *but then again when is Baby like an ordinary irn * so we just lay a towel over us when we have him on us. When we know he has eaten, about a half hour later, we'll put him on his play gym until he poos. Maybe then we should praise him and maybe he'll be potty trained!

Wow great website, lots of good info and there's a story on there about a little female irn that the man was able to tame. Very touching.

Thanks and the potty training begins. :D
