Food aggression question?

Post by iaowings »

George has started to get aggressive over his food, as in if he is eating or near it and I come to get him or go near his cage I get threatened. He also tried to bite me today when I gave him a millet seed treat, he lunged at my finger then bit me ever so softly but it was still a bite. He only does this around his food otherwise he is just the sweetest little coo factory. I have noticed that he takes treats from me in an aggressive snatching manner, this never bothered me until he got aggressive with the food. Is this normal irn behavior? Or is this just my George?

Oh, by coo I mean those little baby bird noises they make when you rub there head and any other spot they like. George will make them especially when I get right below the beak and his ear holes. He does like to snuggle in the morning I just put one hand over him wile holding him in my other hand and he goes right back to sleep sometimes he makes these little squeaks (coo’s) and what not. Is that female behavior? I mean I am certain I have a male, unless the vet mixed up the samples or something.

He sometimes makes little squeaks (coo’s) and stuff when I give him a berry treat, especially if im just getting home from work and pick him up with one in my hand.

Does he ever put his head back while making these noises?

If so, vet might have made a boo boo

No George usually makes them when im rubbing his head or under his wings, sometimes he makes them when I give him a treat as he runs off with it. I have never seen him put his head back, or broaden his wings wile making these noises. The only other time he makes them is in the morning before I go to work and he cuddles with me. By cuddle I mean I hold him in my hands and talk to him he will start to make noise. Other than that he doesn’t really make much noise, except this morning I got awakened to some rather loud noises as he decided to squawk and chirp this for the first time ever. Much louder than I expected.

Yes Missi:

If I had an IRN that coo'ed and put her head back... I wouldnt bother with DNA... female behavior BIG TIME.

Boys just are too cool to do that, they think.

Your Baby throw her head back and get into a trace like state as you love on her?

If so, then we will have a girl BABY and a boy BABY... would make it easier for everyone else to know which bird we are speaking of. :D

She does do this! Not all the time, but a lot. Like in the mornings and when I come home from work and love on her. I rub the back of her neck and talk baby talk to her she does that. I thought it was just baby behaviour!

Ok I think I was using the word coo for the noises George makes. I guess from now on ill just call him my little chatter box.

I must say I really do appreciate you trying to help me mikaela I would be so mad if George was actually a Georgina, not at my bird, but at the vet I paid good money for his well bird check and dna test. I would hate to think of my vet as incompetent. Worse 2 years from now George does not get his black and rose or white ring. What would I do with a female bird that thinks she is called George?

Thank you

I love my fids no mater what.
You are right a fid is still a fid.

Sometimes I think im crazy, if a friend or human family member were to $h!* on me, bite me, expect me to wait on them hand and food then throw the food back at me because they don’t like it, scream at me wile mad, happy, or just having fun, bite me just because they are not happy with what ever it is im doing, make a mess and expect me to clean it up, destroy expensive furniture, barf on me, etc. I would not only throw them out but probably beat them severely. When it comes to my fids I can only laugh and pick up the mess or get more food. Then comment on how cute they are. I love them so much.

Now if that’s not unconditional love I don’t know what is.

Oh yeah. That's unconditional love, and I think a little of
that slave thing we become, willingly, for our birds.
If someone told us "Lets all meet at this place or that place
and we will pick our master and we will be their slave" I sure
wouldn't show up. But I willingly went to buy this bird.

And I might add I love every minute of it. I lay in the bed in the
morning just waiting to here Nila chirp. It starts my day with
a smile.

And I'm so glad to hear there are so many of us out there!!!

I have to get up very early for work so I miss out on the waking up to the chirps, except the weekend. I love waking up to the chirps throwing on a pot of coffee, cooking breakfast for my fids, then sitting there drinking my coffee watching all of them eat and play. They are so so so cute when they get the food all over there beak.

What I love the most is setting the two out on the couch and listening to Bodi flutter to the ground and running his little birdie butt over to me to see what I am doing...follows me around like a puppy...
