He sounds like a chicken!
My Jayjay has been doing this for a while and i dont know what it is. He arches his head up and his tail and starts to make this clucking sound and his eyes start going all white. He sounds like a chicken and we joke that my parrot is confused
but does anyone know why he does it?

Does he squat his body down low? Head up, body squated low and feathers slightly bowed? Cuz that's what my Byndi does and they told me that's a female mating "trance". She's so loving when she does this. And she makes chicken like noises. You can only pet her when she is in this trance like state. So if he is squating his body then he might very well be a she. If you've got a video camera or digi camera w/ video and can post video of your bird doing it I can let you know if it's what my Byndi does.

Here's what I know for sure to be right:
If the bird squats down and arches it's head back, it's a female
If the bird bows it's head forward, towards the ground, it's pretty much a male.
Then again there are those few choice odd birds who do the oppoisite to confuse us.
Jen's Byndi does a good example in one of her vids on. Check it out!

What is going on around your Irn when he is exhibiting?
What is going on around your Irn when he is exhibiting the behavior?
My Irn does that too. He has an extreme version (Head arched and bowing kind og showing the ring but with head feathers sleeked down , body streached, wings unfolded, right leg extended eyes pinning and a big click/cluck--all in one motion) when he sees certain shapes flying above him like birds of prey and airplanes even helicopters; he does it when there is a loud sound nearby like mowers or large trucks; sometimes he does it when a person or a dog walks by underneath (he and I hang out on a porch alot). He stops either when the thing has passed or when I acknowledge him using my voice.
I have also noticed that when he is just on my shoulder or the back of my chair he does a minor version directed towards my face. He'll balance on his left foot and tail and rump, extend his right leg, straighten his back and arch his head and bow towards his exteded leg showing off his ring with eyes pinned and a cluck and a wolf whistle. When I respond to him vocally with a click he will walk up to my face and touch his beak to my face. If I whistle back he will just do more of the pose and continue whistling.
It's kind of fun seeing the different responses.
The extreme one seems to be some kind of a warning. The minor one is more nuanced and I think is gender specific.

Wow!!! So Jayjay isnt confused ha ha!! He does this as soon as i come home and let him out of his cage and this is one of the few times i am allowed to pat him. He always does it when he wants a scratch. It makes me laugh.
His tail is arched downwards and his head is arched up to the ceiling .. does this mean my he is actually a she ?? I have been waiting for his ring to come through if it was a male but was told that this could take up to 3 years. He is just over 18 months.
Maybe i am the one who is confused!!!
