Is this part of bluffing?

Post by elaine »

Or perhaps my bird is just being a little smart ****!!!

This morning I put my finger in front of him to step up. Instead in placed his beak on it, didn't actually apply pressure to bite and it didn't hurt. He then used his whole body and literally pushed my finger away and then let go????

He was obviousy saying 'No I am not stepping up'. I did try again about 2 mins later and he did step up straight away. Should I have waited or tried immediately and was he testing or laying the rules down?

mm. In my opinion it's good to allow your bird to say no.

ask once and if your bird says no fine, but ask twice FIRMLY let your bird know that this time it's important that it step up, when you need to move him somewhere.

Dont just do it for the sake of it. use the nice voice for asking, and the serious voice for when it's not up to him

Thanks for your opinion. He has been fine the rest of the day, he obviously just wanted to be left alone and was letting me know. At the time it happened he was playing on top of his cage and I just wanted to pat him and play a while, nothing urgent. He probably hadn't finished playing with his new toys!!

Don't let them get away with anything! If you show that they can get away with stepping up it wll continue! They are smart little buggers who take advatange of everything. Give em an ince they'll take the whole friggin mile...
