Thank you for sharing this experience with us! Could you post a little more information about how you noticed the problem, how you helped move the band up the leg, and how you got the band off? I am sure there will be someone else who has this experience some time, and I know they would be helped to hear how you dealt with it successfully. Moreover, I am very interested, myself.

No problem :)
I was feeding echo his egg and biscuit snack, once finished I put him down on the lounge while I cleaned up. Looking over I saw him wabbling as he was walking, watched closer and realised he wasnt putting weight on his leg. I picked him up and looked at his foot and it was very swollen and almost open stiff. He would not grasp my finger with his foot. I saw the ring down near the elbow joint and went to shimmy it up to get a closer look at the leg. It would almost not move. I had to twist and twist and twist it almost like losening a screw to shimmy it up the leg to a thinner part of the leg. I had to hold him tight while hubby got a very small pair of pliers to the ring. Very carefully we fut through one side and then on the other side so it came off in two pieces

Wow. You took matters in hand to save your bird. Well done!

For other readers, I understand that it is quite dangerous to cut the band off, and there is a risk of injuring the bird, perhaps breaking the leg. I bet that dan4nas is glad to have not heard this information before the band cutting procedure! It would make me quite nervous.

Thanks for sharing this. There is someone else right now who has a bird with a sore foot. Now they can evaluate their problem with the knowledge of your experience. Isn't the Forum great?!

I wouldn't have taken it into my own hands unless I felt we were holding him etc in a way that wasnt going to hurt him. Had it been any tighter no I would not have done it myself.

Wow...that would have scared me like crazy. Good job!! Where was the ring placement on his leg? When he was standing was it laying on the first joint there? Or was it pushed up past the elbow joint?
I am owned by my birds...and I wouldn't have it any other way :D

Right down on the first joint. Scared the hell out of me as his foot was like a balloon and he could not move his toes. I was lucky enough to be able to keep twisting until it got high enough to cut it off, I'd say had I not noticed it until the next feed it would have swollen too much that I would not have had a chance with it. He is great now, swelling all went down within a few minutes, I could say my noticing it was perfect timing it could of gotten much worse. Just yesterday his foot was fine,
