I wanted to save everyone of them

Post by kyria »

I was at Fountain Gate on the Weekend and we stopped in at the birdworld there. The ladies has Alexandrines on their shoulders walking around and they are so wonderful as a tamed pet. One of the ladies let me play with her Alex for a while, funny enough its name was Alex.

Anyway the real reason for this post. When I went into the aviary area, they had all kinds of parrots, but the IRN aviary was full of birds with so badly bitten and broken tail feathers and very bored and scared looking ringnecks .. I could have cried my eyes out and brought each and everyone to save them (if I could afford it) and care for them until they were as pristine as my two.

It made me realise what true love and care does for a bird. My two look like elite showbirds compared to the motly frightened bunch at that place. And they had a special on the greens that day, $50.

My daughter fell in love with a masked lovebird and a superb.

Called hubby just to see if we could add to our bunch, but he said NO. Luckily too I guess, best to keep it to the ones we have and can concentrate all our love and care on. Sigh!

But boy did I want to save them all. :(

Oh how awful

I really feel for you having to walk away and help the poor babies. Its so sad that someone is going to buy one of those birds and have a real hard job in taming or even just calming them. Or worse still no-one buys them and they are left in that awful place. How come the shop owners arnt doing anything about it, surley its neglect. Here in England there arnt many petshops that sell animals. Usually just hamsters, fish, rats or budgies. You have to seek out a breeder of the specific animal/bird. Which i feel is much better. I can remembr an advertising campaign run by the r.s.p.c.a [royal society of prevention of cruelty to animals] Anyway it tried to show how the health of animals bought from pet shops was unlikely to be as good as from a breeder. And it seemed to have worked. Unfortunatly some pets stores went bust but now its is very rare to find animals in poor conditions in a petstore, which is great news for the parrots of the world and dogs. Anyway im waffling, as usual so ill go. Natalie xxx :)

That's so sad! Makes me want to bawl when I see these wonderfuls parrots being mistreated. Grrr...people like that should even be in the pet business!

So the Alexs were sweet? I want one so much...

I went into a petshop on the weekend to look at suitable pet birds for my 10 year old son. I was shown these 'handraised' cockatiels that had no tail feathers and if they did, they were a mess. These birds were petrified and fluttered off the perch when i put my hand near them. And....here's the killer.....they wanted $70.00 for these poor things.

Needless to say, we walked out of there birdless - i'll look in the paper for a breeder i think.

Angie,
Sorry to hear your story. Wouldn't u be embarrassed to even show those birds to anyone if you worked there? Boy I would. I just don't get how people can just not care. I mean, it's JUST a bird. Right? Right! Sometimes I would just love to have all the money in the world and just rescue each and every unwanted, mistreated, neglected, abused critter in this world. But unfortunately, I don't see that happening. But I sure would love that.

Hugs for your breaking heart.
