Hi All...
I am new to this forum. I have two ring necks and they are of younger age. However, I am not sure about their exact age. Is there anyway to check it?
Also, I would like to train them to speak few words. How, I can go about it?
Any help will be highly appreciated...
How to check the age of the parrots?

Re: How to check the age of the parrots?
Hi, do you know the sex of your birds? What age were you told they are? Unfortunately unless you have a young male, who will then be developing his ring, there is no way to gauge age. Male ringnecks start getting their rings from about 18months, and are usually fully rung by 3 years, which would give a vague indication of age.
Best way to try train your bird to talk, simply talk to it, repeating phrases you would like him / her to learn. Some birds are quick to learn, and some will never learn no matter how hard you try to teach them.
Hope this helps.

If your bird is banded you may be able to read the hatch year right from the band. If there is no year, you may be able to track the breeder using the band. The breeder should have some record. If that doesn't help, then you are stuck with guessing based on when the (male) bird's ring developed, perhaps getting help from someone who was a witness to that. If you have a hen, you don't even have that to go on.
For talking, of course, you should talk to your bird. I think it would help to have conversation going on in the area, as well. TV at the least, for maybe one show at a time. Try to pronounce the words enthusiastically and remember, if you have sloppy speech your bird will copy that sloppiness.
