Split to blue or not split to blue:?:

Post by gibbyone0 »

How do you know if an IRN is split to blue or not. I have a green male who's split to blue and 2 females who look the same (Not with the neck ring of a male) they're not suppose to be split to blue, they're green females but have a blue hue over their backs and wings.

The only way you can tell if a bird is split to blue is by breeding it and seeing what comes out. Because of the nature of a split you can not see it on the bird at all.

The only wat to know is to breed it with a Green/Blue or a Blue.
Do you know the background of these birds?

I am breeding one of the females to a grey/green pallid and the other one to a blue. I do not know the back ground of these 2 females nor the blue male. I do know about the pallid. Here is an email about the pallids parents

"Here is the line up of birds this pair (mom & Dad) have produced. Turquoise blue pallid, Turquoise grey pallid, Cinnamon pallid and like yours the grey/green pallid so your boy has all of these colours in him that is why I say find a blue series girl if you can and in the mean time for this year I'd breed him to one of your green girls see what you get but remember green is the dominate colour so they may be mostly greens"

I am impressed with the pallid for sure!!!

I checked your website......you have some really nice birds. :D

Guess what! If what the breeder told you is correct, then your Grey Green Pallid is split Blue and Cinnamon.

So Grey Grey Pallid/Blue/Cinnamon Cock x Green Hen
=Green/Pallid Cocks
=Grey Green/Pallid Cocks
=Green/Blue/Pallid Cocks
=Grey Green/Blue/Pallid Cocks
=Green/Cinnamon/Pallid Cocks
=Grey Green/Cinnamon/Pallid Cocks
= Green/Blue/Cinnamon/Pallid Cocks
=Grey Green/Blue/Cinnamon/Pallid Cocks

=Green Pallid Hens
=Cinnamon Pallid Hens
=Grey Green Pallid Hens
=Grey Green Cinnamon Pallid Hens
=Green Pallid/Blue Hens
=Cinnamon Pallid/Blue Hens
=Grey Green Pallid/Blue Hens
=Grey Green Cinnamon Pallid/Blue Hens

Hope this helps :D

Thank you for the info

Thank you very much! I will keep this information for sure. I can't believe what mutations can be produced. Where were you able to find this information out? I know there is a lovebird generator out there but not a IRN.

Thanks again. :D

If you really wanted one use this one, but you almost need a science degree to use it :p

I can forward this on to my friend....she's a genius at this stuff. I'm NOT.
Thank you again for your help and the info.

I can hardly wait to get my pallid in...He's coming in about 3 weeks. I have to quarantine the 3 new ones that long. They are settling in fine.

Oh hey......you breed lovebirds I see. I have a Lutino female and a slate (it has that cataloupe band over his cere) The baby is totally fuzzy grey down and has green feathers poking through......it that normal?

It will be a Jade. If it is a boy it will be split Lutino, if it is a girl it will just be Jade

Jade???

Post by gibbyone0 »

I've not heard of a Jade before. Must be a new mutation.......I should get loads of money for him!!!! His sibling looked yellow for a bit and now it's gone to the green side...I thought for sure it was a lutino like it's mother. Strange thing these animals

Jade is a Green with 1 dark factor.
They may be called Medium Greens where you are.

From that pairing, you can't get Lutinos unless the Slate Cock is plit to Lutino.

OOOOOh so this means....if the 1 baby is yellow then it's a male. Because 2 days ago the body fuzz was yellow and now it's darker. I don't know how to send pictures via this site.....I could share pictures of the baby with you.

You've been a great help.

If I could share pictures, you might be able to help me figure out the breed of this whitish lovebird I have with some grey smudges on her body. SHE has red eyes!!!!!!

Oh ok, i see what you mean.
With babies, yellow down (fuzz) indicates the bird is Green series (Green, Jade, Olive, Lutino, Pallid, Cinnamon etc)
If they are born with White down (fuzz) it indicates a blue series bird (WF Blue, Dutch Blue, Seagreen, Blue Pallid, Creamino, Slate etc)

So your baby is a Green and could be either sex.

You can upload your photos to this site www.photobucket.com, then copy and paste the url of each photo onto this site. I'm not too good at explaining, someone else might put it into better words

Picture site...Thank you

It was very easy. If I didn't know my way around computers it would be different. The first picture was HUGE. I could still make it a little smaller.
Thanks again for the genetics on my lovies.!!
