Moulting

Does anyone know how often IRN's moult? How long does a it last? I thought it was only after breeding season. If they moult does this mean no more chance of mating for the year? Thanks for any advice!

Jodie,

I believe they molt ONCE a year as with almost any parrot. My birds' molt lasted a couple months or so. Here is a more detailed article on molting if you are interested

:?: I have no idea if it has any effect on breeding

Hope this helps! :)

Once a year seems to be the time for IRN. Usually in the summer - I don't know if that's the usual time for the wild birds but it seems to make sense to me. I mean, if you're going to be half-naked it might as well be while it's warm out  ! The duration seems to be about 6-8 weeks.

Hope this helps.
Have a great day!
