Toe Nails

Post by jen5239 »

I've got a silly ? But when I hold Remmi sometimes my hands break out in bumps from where his toe nails dig in. Does anyone else do that? And they burn. Kind of like when you get scratched by a cat. Anyone have any idea why this happens? Or am I just strange. :D I've got about 13 little scratches/red marks on my right hand from holding him last night. Any ideas??

Young birds tend to have really sharp claws, you might want to clip them a little to make them blunt, not much, just the tip so it's not so sharp.

You might have a slight reaction to all the crap on their nails when they scratch you.

Now i knnnnoowwww people hate using gloves because it scares the bird. New things always scare birds. Seriously once they are used to it they dont care. I had a cockatiel afraid of hands, but as soon as I covered my hand up with my sleeve he would hop up and sing to my hand and so on.

Maybe have a bird glove and use it when you want your bird to sit on you. Not only will it protect your hand from bites, scratches whatever, It will also give your bird a BETTER surface to hold on to. Especially after you blunt their claws they feel really insecure with their footing.

I've gotten them from Mazzie's nails a long time ago. I think you build up an immunity to it?

It is like a cat scratch, the birds have their own dander that is on their nails, and you can be allergic to it.

Extra baths helped, but time was the only cure for me.

Lol, my arms look as though I've been in a cat fight.
I just put up with it. I did purchase a dried cactus perch for shrek the other day (he is the worst for needle sharp claws), so hopefully it will help.
