how to make my bird like me

Post by chuckles »

i made great progress with my bird for the last two month but i cant seem to make him like me , so far i taught him two tricks " kiss and turnaround" , when i open his cage and move away he comes out and sit atop of his cage and gets back in without flying somewhere else even though he dont speak and strangely just make sound before i wake up "i wake up at 11:00 am" , anyway i cant seem to be able to create some-kind of bond between me and him , he never make any interest in me in the morning , he never calls for me and when i approach his cage he moves away from me on his perch even though when he is out of his cage he steps up on my hand , i dunno if arn "mine is arn i believe" are different from irn cause they are unbelievably small for a parrot which make them more scared of humans or he isnt actually a ringneck to begin with lol

Hi chuckles

Well done with the tricks! Good job!

I got Janey in 2008. She was handraised and quite tame to begin with.... but I must say it has taken a long time to develop that bond. We had a strong bond when she was a baby... but things changed a little when she became an adult. I guess she wanted to assert her independence.

The relationship is quite strong now and I can see the relationship strengthening on a daily basis... but I remember some days I'd go to her cage and she just wouldn't want to come out.... Now, most days, the two of them, are falling over themselves to come to me when I open the cage door of a morning.

I had cats growing up and for me, the bond with my birds took way longer to build to the same level than it did with my cats.

So, I guess I'm saying, be patient. Keep offering your bird its fav treats every time you see it. Eventually with kindness and patience, you'll win it over.

Ellie.
