Is this strange or normal?

My baby IRN doesn't like his fruit and vegetables mixed in the same bowl. I recently put apple carrot and spinich all in the one bowl. The apple is his favourite, he enjoys spinich but the carrot was new. However he preceded to separate them all. He threw the carrot on the floor of his cage although he did enjoy eating it. The spinich he also took out and dragged it to the opposite side of the cage, nibbled on it now and again yet the apple stayed in the bowl? Is he playing with it or was he being fussy about the mix? Since then I have put everything out separately at different times of the day and he doesn't remove anything from the bowl, just nibbles away? how bizzare

I have never really thought about it. I give my fids a big bowl morning and night with a different variety each time and they have always played and eaten and nit pick and tossed stuff out their cage door and onto the floor, dunked and dropped stuff in their water bowl. I find food from a/hole to breakfast. I reckon its just part of their dynamic personality.
