At what age did your bird start to display by flaring of his shoulders?
My bird is about four months old and i'm so curious about the gender! There is a faint darker green tinge where the ring will be, but it's way too early yet.
I know it's not specific proof, but i'm curious if there's an age when the birds start to exhibit this behaviour?
I've had him/her since 9 weeks.
Cheers!

Re: For male IRN owners
Hi there
Every bird is different, some start dancing early, others much later.
I have a green male that started at about 5/6 months, i now have a turquoise blue who started at about 13mnths but on the flipside he is a naughty little so and so who loves to pull the other birds tails. I have another turquoise blue who i thought was a female right up until he got his ring and he only paired with a female and took notice another 6mnths after that.
It honestly all depends on the bird.
My female handreared bird who is about 8yrs also displays with the wings although in a heart shape, she crouches close to the floor bends her head back and makes clucking noises, pinned eyes but does not move an inch from her spot.
The males make a heart shape but then they tend to bend forward and the stretch high into the air again and repeat the process, then they sort of do a little hop, skip and jump too if the are on the floor, all whilst talking, almost coaxing there female to let them get in there
its quite cute actually watching the ritual.
Hope this helps
Regards
Carmen

Hi Carmen,
thankyou for your reply! Yes it gives me a little bit of an idea...
Funny little birds these! Seems nothing is "normal" for them in terms of what they'll do and when!
Makes it more interesting i guess!
