Screaming screaming screaming

Post by Riebie »

I'm after some advice on my female IRN please. She's a pet bird, not overly tame but not wild either, it doesn't take too much to get her taking food from my hand and stepping up etc. She is living in a cage with a brother and sister pair who are obviously close/bonded, they were hand raised by me and very friendly. I wonder if she might be after a partner? The constant screaming is becoming unbearable, and the only way to curb it is to give her constant attention which I just don't have time to do, as soon as I put her back in her cage the screaming starts again. I don't know if I should make the sad decision to give her to another home where maybe she could be a single bird and get lots of attention, or if she would be happy if I got her a mate.. I am worried about getting another one, and her still being unhappy and then needing to find room for the new boy as well! If anyone had any experience like that that could help me with some advice that would be great!

Screaming can be a really hard problem to fix. If you are giving her attention when she screams out, even though you were trying to do the right thing, this just encourages her to scream more because she learns it gives her what she wants.

Have a look at these blog entries on screaming and see if they offer any useful advice:

Best wishes!
