IRN's and cats

Post by Rosemary »

I am wondering what would happen if I let my IRN out on to the floor with the cat inside. Do you think the cat would go for it, or would the bird be able to stand up to other animals. We have a big fluffy Keeshond Dog but they do not bother each other, but the cat might be a different story.
I wonder if anyone has had any experiences with cats??

It sounds like your cat is an indoor and outdoor cat. If this is so, I would be weary of unsupervised interaction. My mother bird sat for me once and has a chihuahua (wanna be cat). He whined because he wanted to see the bird. My Dad left the bird unsupervised out of the cage. No blood shed, but the bird found higher ground on the chair frame and the dog was right there in front of him. I am not sure if they made friends or not. I was quite upset when I heard of the incident! I recently had a pet carrier with breeder birds with me as I visited my parents and the dog again whined like crazy wanting to see the birds.
But I seriously doubt your bird would head for the floor on purpose. I have no idea how my bird ended up on the floor in my story! I find it amazing being a bird breeder how they go from hiding in a towel to flying to the top of a curtain rod literally in a day!
I would not advise too much interaction with your bird and other animals. The dog might snap and chomp no more birdie. With the cat, he might have alittle better chance if he can fly.
I hope this helps!

cats and birds

Funny thing I have three indoor cats Ducky loves to go to where they are sleeping ( on top of chair) and start messing with their tails two cats could care less what he does the other one would pounce on him I'm sure if I were not in sight. I've heard cat saliva is a dangerous thing I've also heard that about human saliva also.

Thanks for your letter about Ducky and your cats. I had not heard of saliva being dangerous, quite often Bobby pokes his head in and around my mouth, and often gives me kisses. Is this dangerous to me and Bobby?
I have had to clip his wings once again, because he was having some really bad crashes, now he cannot fly at all, but he happily follows me around, and plays with his toys, does not seem to notice any difference. :?
