Post by evaleen »

umm... :? i'm a newbie...
and i'm hoping this post will b welcomed warmly. i really need u guys help... :(

the pet shops around here are VERY unreliable. i could swear that they might not even care!
so that's why i'm totally lost...
i really want a male irn, and i want one that's around 2 to 4 months old.
but i cant rely on the pet shop people to identify their gender.

any help? how can i identify the genders of young green irns? :?:
pictures of male and female irns would b greatly appreciated. at least to get a vague idea. :)

don't u guys have pictures of your babies wen they were 3 months old? plz... could u share them here?

i really want to bring my feathered friend home as soon as possible... so i'd love the help... :D
the articles already on this site are awesome. but it seems that they are more applicable to the older birds. :(

pleeeeeeezzzzzzzzz help....

it is very hard to tell the sex of an IRN until they are about 2 years old, as I'm sure you already know.

if you have this service available in your part of the world, you could have a bird DNA sexed, which is very reliable. in America this is not very expensive to have done.

all of that aside, i have two IRN's who are about 1.5 year old. i am not certain what their gender is, but watching their behavior, i am pretty sure that one is a boy and the other is a girl. but i have had them since they were babies so i have had plenty of time to observe them, although even when they were still at the pet shop i just had a good feeling which was a boy and which was a girl.

i guess i will learn for sure in a few more months when they reach their second birthday

but after having said all of that, the sex of a bird should not be too important. if you want a bird simply for its talking ability or what the gender is, then maybe you are wanting a bird for the wrong reason, and should think about getting a dog or cat instead.

both of my birds are very sweet, and as far as temperament goes, they both have their good and bad side. each can be moody once in a while and they have their independent side, but they can also be lots of fun and entertaining, like little clowns.

please reconsider why you want a bird if the only thing that mattes is whether it is a boy or girl. you may be setting unfair expectations on the bird. just enjoy the bird you choose for its unique personality.

(smiling) i know why u think that my wanting a irn isnt exactly ""right"",
i get that alot wen i ask for a male irn. but still...
i gess i'm attracted to the male species more..(giggling)
i love the plumage and the color! the brightness, the courtship antiques, the way they check out themselves in the mirror...
and most importantly, i loooooveee that beautiful ring they form in the guys!

(ah... was i rambling? pardon me... a hehe)

but u guys are right. it shouldnt matter whether its a male or a female. :)
i'm going to the pet shop today to get my irn. :D
i hope i can pick out a healthy one, the pet shops in our district sucks...

yaaaay! cant wait! thanks for your reply effekt!
