I Just Got My IRN Today

Post by SherbertsMommy »

Hello,

I just brought home my new IRN today. He is 6 months old, and just a sweetie pie! :D

His name is Sherbert. I found him at my local pet store, and just fell in love instantly. He is so beautiful, and has a lot of personality.

The pet store owner was concerned about taming him because he started out handfed and then the breeder quit with him. I was a tad concerned, but was too in love to leave him. Anyway, we brought him home, and when I reached into the box to put him into his cage, he jumped right onto my hand. Each time I reach for him, he just jumps right onto my hand, and climbs up my arm to my shoulder. He isn't much on petting him yet, but I am sure we will get to that, I mean this is only the first day with him. He also says "Hello" already. He just learned and had only been doing it for about a day or so.

I have had cockatiels in the past, so I have experience with birds, but I am so intrigued by Sherbert. My husband bought him for me for Christmas because he made me get rid of my last 'tiel because she had some serious behavior issues. She had a prior family where she had no boundaries. It was tough.

Anyway, I am so happy to have this site to come to if I need questions answered, or someone to talk to about my beautiful, little bird. Thank you for taking the time to offer this.

Welcome to this forum!

How exciting! I love the feeling of getting a new IRN. You’ll come to see why I prefer these parrots more so than others. They truly are fascinating to watch and listen too.

Hang in there about petting and getting affectionate with your Ringneck. Ringnecks love to be petted; however, they don’t like digging or excessive deep petting due to their feathers. Stoke the parrot in a downward motion from the head to the wings. They love it!

It seems your little one was handfed and ready for interaction through your description. Good luck and I hope he brings you many years of enjoyment. You can browse through the board for extra info.

Hope this helps and welcome again.
