Hi! I'm speaking for my bird Atticus so let's just call me Atticus too.
My first bird is a Blue IRN. Atticus is 7 months old and I think I am doing everything right. He is trying to talk and he will perch on a hand held stick.
He sits on my shoulder while I work on my computer here at home.
I know IRN's are territorial but Atticus nips at me when I try to take him from his cage. I don't want to upset him by just grabbing him and coaxing just doesn't work. If I let him come out on his own he'll sit on my shoulder with no problems. Is it his personality or is this normal behavior?

Welcome to this forum!
Your Ringneck might be settling in right now. Just avoid any excessive handling until you’re sure your Ringneck feels “right at home.” Atticus could take weeks or days to adjust to his environment depending on how he is feeling. You’ll know when he is content by his body movements, noise, and playfulness.
Good for not just grabbing him. This can do more harm than any good. Welcome him through treats and lots of praise. If you feel he is already adjusted with you and his surroundings take him into a quit room and practice step ups with him. Just make sure he is really settled inn and he is able to step onto your hand without hesitation.
Hope this helps and congrats on your new friend. If properly cared for you can develop a strong relationship that could easily last into its 20s.
Best wishes & Happy Holidays!
