Pet Parrot Picnic

Post by Datsun and Family »

Well our day was fantastic! Weather was perfect, not too hot or sunny but no wind or rain. Datsun had a wonderful time, she chatted away and wowed everyone with her natural charms and cuteness  Audi was a bit overwhelmed with all the BIG birds around, cant really blame him he was the smallest parrot there!

Now on to the piccies!

This was a gentleman playing a barrel organ which was over a hundred years old. He played throughout the day, sitting on the attatched perch is Chaquita, a 5 year old Harlequin Macaw.

This is the stunning female Eclectus sitting next to us the whole day, she was such a poser, I couldnt resist a photo shoot!
Image

This is Tango a B&G Macaw who has a beak deformity, it grows too long and twists so she has to have expensive surgery every year to correct it. She is such a sweet girl.
Image

This is James and I talking to some people about Ringnecks and Lovebirds, so many people were interested to know how we had tamed them and taught Dats to talk. Simple answer, we didnt teach her to talk she just wanted to communicate with us and, well, they are tame because we handle them.... LOTS!
Image

This is James' little sister Lisa about to enter an egg and spoon race, only one catch... you have to be holding a bird! Datsun hung on for dear life!

Chaquita and Tango with their Mums.

Close up of Chaquita, isnt she beautiful!?!

This is Oscar, he is 3 months old and is a Ringneck crossed with a Moustache. He was really confident, just ran up to me and chewed on my toes! He is quite a spunky wee guy!
Image

Datsun and Oscar made friends quite early in the day, they were so cute together. They played on the ground for a while, playing chasey mostly

Then lastly another one of the stunning miss Chaquita, star of the show and a real darling. I was in love!!!

So that was this years picnic. Its loads of fun, great people, beautiful birds and a sausage sizzle! Life couldnt get better

Chamon! what a fantastic day and wonderful pictures , thankyou so much. :D

What a great idea ! I would love to have come along and brought my girlfriend with her olive rainbow lori too.

Tell me.. were there any rules or special setup, who arranged it. Was it more like just a chosen park and a flier and ad in the local paper or was it a bird club ?

Would love to have something like that here in our Guide Park.

What about owners maybe walking their dogs etc. ?? Where there any difficulties encountered on the day ?

Well it was all organised by the Parrot Society of NZ, they hired a hall and its grounds. They sorted the games and prizes. All we had to do was show up with our babies, a picnic and friends.

It was $5 to get in and well worth it! We came home with two toys worth $30 that we won in the raffle. It was fun last year and this year was even better!

The Parrot Society advertise for the picnic by putting posters up at vets and pet stores and its on their website http://www.parrot.co.nz
