Hi there,

I just joined the other day. I don't have a ringneck, but I am considering getting one. I do have several other parrots. I am going to be going to meet an adult, male ringneck. He is reportedly a nice bird, he looks relaxed in the pictures. The only drawback is that his wings have been clipped, pretty short and my birds are all flighted. Anyway, I thought I would join here and trip around a little bit as I get closer to meeting this guy.

Where are you? Here in Maryland, USA, my bird has already thrown down a few downy feathers - molt coming. Don't let a clipping come between you and your bird.

Hi and welcome. When I got Kiwi in september his wings were cut pretty short and now 7 months later the right side has full feathers and the left side needs about 3-4 new ones. So he nearly has all his feathers grown and can fly beautifully!

My boy had a chop job when I got him. He's in full molt here in Hawaii and his feathers are coming in beautiful now. If you're worried about him being able to defend himself, then for awhile just let him out separate from your other birds. Ringnecks when clipped are still able to fly pretty good. Especially if it came down to a fight or flight instinct. Good luck on getting your new bird

hi there,
i have a 6 month old and i have his wings clipped, i have them clipped so that he cant fly at all.
but i have them that way because i an disable.
i dont see there being a big difference with him not being able to fly, i have made it possible for him to get where he need to, i have a knotted rope for him to climb up onto his cage from the floor and i have one so he can get up onto my bed by himself, and if i see he just really want to go for one place to another (like to his cage from my bed without wanting to climb) the i get up and take him there myself.
and because of that he knows that if he wants or needs to get somewhere that he can or i will take him there.
also it does help that he cant get into anything he isnt supposed to.

so just because you potential feathered friend might have his wings clipped, until they regrow you can make your environment walking friendly for him.

I got my irn about two weeks age, she had been clipped by the breeder severely. I thought she couldn't fly, she can fly across two rooms, I can't wait to see how she flies when fully flighted.
