Strange Head Bopping from baby IRN

Post by Jessandeli »

I have had my baby IRN for a week now he is 5 weeks old, still hand feeding him. He is my first bird so im new at this, but the last couple of days he has been doing this head bopping thing and he cherps as he does it, at first i thought it was because he was hungry(like a way of begging) so i feed him when he does it, untill he stops, then he is quiet content. problem is he is doing it all the time... so i dont know?

and also how many times a day should i feed him? and i am also unsure how or when to wean him?

help would be muchly appreciated thanks :)

Hi! Congratulations with your new baby IRN! Petrie, my IRN did it alot! And only made that screechy call. You probably should be feeding him/ her 4 times a day? Make sure your Squashing the food and warming it up. Your IRN should do the bopping head thing when it's hungry and begging for food. Try feeding him/her 4 times a day? See if that helps? I found that's feeding my IRN smaller meals and more frequently made him happier and less screechy! Lol.

thanks, thats helped alot. Also how did you wean your baby? Ive put seeds in his day cage, and he nibbles on them but no where near enough to keep him nourished.

He flaps his wings whenever i hold him constantly, do you think that he is learning to fly, he seems happy when he does this.

thanks again :)

Heya i got a green IRN baby on saturday, He does the head bobbing with the chirping combo too. I think it's normal. The guy i purchased the bird off said it's completely natural, Just make sure you dont give into the babies eyes and feed him/her too much, 4-5 times a day maximum, If you're feeding formula try to make sure it's warm too.
