These photos are of a bird that a friend of mine just bought at a bird show. They told her it was a pied that came from a blue/ino and a lutino hen. I dont know about it being pied???? Do you think that it might be a pallidino if the male was split to pallid and not ino??? She is getting it DNA'd this weekend, it hatched in Feb. of this year. It seems as if the people who sold her the bird did nit really understand genetics for them to call it a pied. Or do you guys think it could be?
Pic looks a little dark to be a pallid ino. Certainly not pied. If the parentage is correct then this defies genetics. It is probably a dark variant of a green pallid and likely the parentage makeup includes pallid somewhere up the family tree.
I have recently got a male who looks very similar to your bird, although with his ring it makes the slight colour difference in the head a little more noticeable. Here are the links to the pictures, sorry they aren't perfect, they were taken with my phone and the camera quality is not the best:
He was moulting at the time these pictures were taken, but you can still see the colours. I am pairing him to a lime pallid for this coming breeding season. If anything other than pallid babies come out, I know there is more to the genetic make-up than meets the eye, as I do not know the history on his side.
looking at the flight feathers you could see that definate biscuit color associated with cinnamons and lacewings/pallid. Is it possible that the pied effect that is observed is due to the way the the pallid is reacting to the dark gene??? Do you still think it is a dark green pallid?? Or does it look more like a pied??
Bird is not a pied because you can not see the yellow on the head for my it is a darkgreen cinnamon for pallid the color of the head of the bird is almost or is the same of the body normally the 100 % pur pallid have a nice yellow head and a nice green body
She have an Eastern European looks to her, so Baltid it is.
Baltid is similar to alpinid...i think alpinids can have blue eyes too right? the face in the last picture looks alpinid to me....maybe thats baltid i dont know, but i think she brachycephalic not nordic
Baltid and Alpinid are quite similiar, yes because they are infantile just like Nordid and Mediterraneanid are similiar but the difference is pigmentation, origin and some detail etc. headform, eye. Baltid looks Eastern European whereas Alpinid looks more Central European. Baltid are more progessive and lighter than Alpinid.
lighter yes more progressive no
What you mean no ? Baltid are more progessive than Alpinid.
I think Baltids are less progressive than alpinids...
Where did you get this ideas from, man ? Baltid looks like Nordicised Alpinid which is they are more progessive than Alpinid. Say something stupid and you get stupid answer.
